hey dave ..it sounds to me lke you stipulation to install the motherboaed drivers. i think the 2 washed out icons show that you hold drivers missing for your onboard graphics.
That means that when Windows tried to install those items, it be not able to find a driver (software) for running them. Sounds close to both devices would be part of the system board, so check the trellis site of the manufacturer of the PC or system board. They should enjoy drivers available. Load the drivers according to the instructions on the web site (different for respectively driver). If the yellow results do not go away, next right click on them and uninstall the device, reboot, and Windows should properly load them.

Someone reinstalled the OS short using the right motherboard drivers. If you don't have the compact disc, you'll have to hunt them down on the computer or motherboard manufacturer site.
